Should Just Work"

About Matt Jones, President, Freedom Tech.

Matt Jones is President and Chief Technology Officer of Freedom Technology Partners, the company behind Freedom Tech. He leads the company's technology strategy, solutions development, and technical operations—with a particular passion for difficult problems, unusual requirements, and seemingly impossible challenges that don't come with an off-the-shelf answer.

Built to Figure Things Out

Born and raised in Harnett County, North Carolina, near Fort Bragg, Matt grew up in a military family and around entrepreneurs. His grandparents built businesses of their own, while his grandfather was the kind of person who could seemingly fix anything or figure out a solution when one wasn't obvious.

That mindset stuck.

Matt carried the same curiosity into technology: understand how something works, learn what you don't know, and never assume a problem is impossible simply because someone hasn't solved it yet.

He started Freedom Tech in 2010 around a simple belief:

Technology should just work.

Today, that philosophy has evolved into something bigger.

Bring Us the Hard Problems

Matt is most energized by problems that don't fit neatly into a product catalog—the complicated projects where technology, people, security requirements, vendors, infrastructure, and real-world operations all have to come together.

His approach starts with the mission:

What are you trying to accomplish? What's standing in the way? And what can we build, integrate, change, or rethink to make it possible?

Sometimes the answer is an existing technology. Sometimes it's combining technologies in ways they weren't originally designed to work. And sometimes the answer hasn't been built yet.

Those are the problems we want.

Matt's experience spans IT infrastructure, Microsoft technologies, cloud computing, networking, cybersecurity, communications, managed services, systems integration, and emerging technologies.

His experience in public safety and law enforcement has also given him a firsthand perspective on mission-critical government operations—where technology has to work in the real world, under pressure, for the people depending on it.

Never Stop Learning

Matt is relentlessly curious about technology, business, leadership, negotiation, people, and how things work.

He actively seeks opportunities to learn from people who know things he doesn't and has had opportunities to learn from respected leaders and thinkers including Chris Voss, John C. Maxwell, Nido Qubein, Mike Michalowicz, and others.

“I want to be in rooms with people who are smarter than me. That's where I learn, where my assumptions get challenged, and where new ideas come from.”

For Matt, expertise isn't about already knowing every answer.

It's being willing and able to figure one out.

Building Something That Matters

Today, Matt is helping lead Freedom Technology Partners into its next chapter, expanding the company's capabilities to serve businesses, government agencies, public-sector organizations, and prime contractors.

But the vision is bigger than building a successful technology company.

Having grown up in Harnett County, community remains important to Matt. He wants to build an organization that creates careers, develops people, strengthens the community, encourages entrepreneurship, and helps solve meaningful problems.

Matt and his wife, Kristen, are raising their family in North Carolina. Together they have three children. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling, cooking and good food, music, the outdoors, and almost anything that gives him an opportunity to learn something new.

Build. Learn. Solve.

Stay curious. Build things that matter. Solve the problems others can't.
